Thelma Willine Gibbons Traweek

Willine in 2007

Thelma Willine Gibbons Traweek of Ballinger, Texas passed away on December 15, 2011 after a hard fought year long battle with ovarian cancer.  Willine was born August 19, 1944 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Jack and Thelma Gibbons.  She met the love of her life Curtis Traweek while attending West Texas State University and married him September 18, 1964.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Thelma Gibbons.  She is survived by her husband Curtis; daughter Becky Traweek Rodriguez of Georgetown, and husband Tony, and their two children Alexandra and Matthew; daughter Tracy Traweek Moore of Round Rock, and husband John, and their four children Keaton, Breydon, Bryson, and Grayson; and son Michael Traweek of Cedar Park, and wife April, and their two children Jackson and Parker; sister Nancy Gibbons Gideon of Fritch, and husband Carl; and extended family and friends she loved greatly.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of First Baptist Church in Ballinger.  She will be remembered for treating everyone like family, being generous beyond measure, always encouraging never discouraging, witty and funny, always dressed to the nines – not a hair out of place, hugs that made everything better, and blind unconditional love for her children and grandchildren.  She loved spending time with her family and friends, good Mexican food, the Dallas Cowboys and shopping - especially for shoes.  She disliked getting wet, spiders and snakes (real or fake), and anything that started before 11:00 am.
In a last act of unselfishness Willine donated her body to medical research in hope that she could help one more person.  Her family would like to offer its thanks and gratitude to Texas Oncology in Austin, TX and Ballinger Memorial Hospital for caring for her like she was one of their own. Services were held in January 2012 in Ballinger, TX.
