Places I have lived: Canyon, Dallas, Richardson, Lubbock, Fritch,
TX and Sylva NC.
Education: West Texas in Canyon for 3 years + 1 year at North Texas
for a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education; Master’s in Early Childhood at
Western Carolina, Cullowhee NC; Doctorate in Educational Administration at
Texas Tech, Lubbock.
Career: Taught preschool through university levels; home schooled
children; taught all ages in Sunday School.
Memories of Phillips: I enjoyed being in the play “The Perfect
Idiot.” Ms Hudson was my favorite teacher. I wouldn’t have passed college
English without the skills she taught me. I will never forget the prison
visit on our senior trip.
Staying in
touch: I appreciated Willine Gibbons sending me a Christmas
card every year. I see Helen Bradley and Darlene Price periodically. A
group of us called “Phillips Ladies” meet once a month for lunch in Borger
or Amarillo on the third Saturday, except July and November. If you are in
the area, come join us.

Family:
I have two adopted children--Kathy, 35 and Kyle, 20. I’m divorced.
I home schooled Kyle from third grade through high school. He began taking
classes at Frank Phillips when he was 16 and is now a senior at West
Texas, majoring in graphic design. He’s on the President and Dean’s lists
each semester and in three honors societies. He plans to get his Masters
in Business. Kathy has lived in Richmond VA, but presently lives in
Fritch. She is developing a plan for a computer business specializing in
web design, business cards, photographs and cards of local items.
Challenge: Seventeen years ago my kidneys began to fail. I was put
on dialysis. Soon the rest of my organs were on the verge of failing. I
received a transplant. I want to encourage all of you to sign a donor card
and discuss your decision with your family. Even if you have signed a
donor card, your family can refuse to let the hospital use your organs.
You can help 15 to 20 people. I’m very thankful to the family who was
willing to give me the kidney of their 18-year-old daughter who was killed
in a car wreck. Please make signing donor cards a family affair. Fifty
thousand people die each year waiting for an organ. Kyle was three when I
received my kidney. Without that donated kidney, I would have missed most
of his life.
